BOI promotes Thai foods in Asia
A mission of Thai food business operators joins FOODEX Japan 2011
Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) plans to have a mission of Thai food and beverage business operators join FOODEX Japan 2011 and meet with Japan?s No. 1 food company, Toyo Seikan, to establish and enhance networking between the two countries.
According to Ms. Duangjai Asawachintachit, BOI?s Deputy Secretary General, BOI will lead a mission of Thai food and beverage business operators to Japan from 28 February to 5 March 2011. With the aim of building a business network and strengthening Thai SME?s opportunities in the international market, the mission will attend the FOODEX Japan 2011 event in Tokyo, Japan, which is the largest food expo in Eastern Asia, attended by more than 2,400 business operators from across the world.
At the food fair, Thai business operators will have a good chance to meet and discuss business opportunities with international food producers, distributers, retailers and wholesalers. They will also exchange knowledge and information about packaging, production technology and market trends. BOI will also arrange a business network of Thai SMEs and Japanese agricultural, food and packaging business operators. Such activities will help boost cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries in the future.
?Thailand remains attractive in the eyes of Japanese investors, as seen from the continuously increasing number of Japanese investments in Thailand. BOI?s 2010 statistics showed that as many as 363 Japanese investment projects worth a total value of Bt104.4 billion applied for promotional incentives in Thailand. This mission, we hope, will create greater business co-operation between the two countries,? said Duangjai.
The previous FOODEX Japan, held in March 2010, welcomed 96,328 people from 65 countries worldwide, including those from Thailand. After the event, Thai companies successfully expanded their investment in Thailand through cooperation with Japanese operators, especially in tapioca processing business.
