Congratulation to the Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) for its efforts in publishing the Business Directory 2005. The Directory is a commendable initiative by MTCC to encourage Malaysian companies based in Bangkok, to network with one another. At the same time, it will serve as a valuable reference point for both the public
Thailand ranks high as a trading partner for Malaysia with both export and imports showing growth. Between January-October 2004, Malaysia’s trade with Thailand amounted to US$9.8 billion, accountng for 5.1 per cent of Malaysia’s global trade for the year.
Malaysia is emerging as an important investor in Thailand. Malaysia’s investment in Thailand from 1995 to 2003 amounted to US$700.2 million or 36.9 per cent of ASEAN’s Investment in Thailand.
With the increasing global competition and the various economic integration and market opening initiatives pursued by Malaysia and Thailand bilaterally, regionally or multilaterally, there is the need and potential, for greater business collaboration between Thai and Malaysian businesse. I wish the Chamber success in all its endeavours.
